[Announcement] RDFa-deployed Multimedia Metadata - ramm.x

Posted by DI Michael Hausenblas at August 01. 2007
To all Semantic Web-concerned, We are happy to announce a new proposal for a multimedia deployment specification: 'RDFa-deployed Multimedia Metadata - ramm.x' [1] Many multimedia metadata formats, as MPEG-7, MPEG-21, Exif, etc. are available to describe what a multimedia asset is about. With the dissemination of User Generated Content, the need for deploying these metadata in (X)HTML pages as blogs, Wikis, etc. arises. However, when one is after using these formats in the context of the Semantic Web, the options are limited. What is basically missing is a framework that allows existing multimedia metadata hooking into the Semantic Web. To enable the deployment of multimedia metadata on the (Semantic) Web (2.0), one valid approach is to use RDFa [2] for the generic deployment (description) of an arbitrary multimedia metadata format. ramm.x aims at realising this in a non-disruptive way. There is a discussion group [3] regarding the development of ramm.x -- which we invite you to join -- and a blog [4] is available as well. We'd very much appreciate comments from you, especially regarding the use cases [5] and the spec [6].
