BiM is MPEG-7 Part 1 and the most recent software for that is only available to MPEG members, I think. However, within W3C there's another activity doing similar things. This group is called EXI [1] and for that an open source implementation exists [2]. Another implementation is [3]. I haven't tried them but if you do, would be great to hear your opinion on that... Best regards, -Christian [1] http://www.w3.org/XML/EXI [2] http://exificient.sourceforge.net/ [3] http://www.codeplex.com/exilib

Hi all, I'm also looking for the XM reference software and I followed the ISO link and found so many files there. I'm pretty new to MPEG7; can anyone help me by pointing me to the exact reference software link? Thank you so much! Ps. Amit, hope you don't mind me crashing into your topic. Did you manage to get the XM reference software up?

Hi guys. So any update? Can anyone reference to where to get MPEG-7 Reference Software (XM Software)? I think Amit Raj, the author of this post, is interested in Reference Software in context of BiM - Binary MPEG format for XML (actually I am too...) The first question is if XM Software contains implementation of coder / decoder of XML to its binary BiM format. The second question is if XM Software is locked for non-MPEG members then how and where to get a couple of concrete examples of XML compression into BiM format. I mean, XML document, XML schema XML document is based on, and compressed version of this XML document. Implementation of ISO/IEC 23001-1 compliant BiM decoder from scratch (what my research group is going to do) seems to be very complicated job, and any examples or reference s/w will be definitely of great help. Thank you for your time, hope for your feedback!

I buy a book MPEG-7 and the DVD is sold with a book. Instruction how can I install XM reference software?because any web page or web link was gained from this DVD do not work! I can not download these necessary support files! Could you help me please ? I have followed this guide: To compile MPEG-7 XM software under Windows: The MPEG-7 XM software can be obtained in two ways: 1. Unzipped from the files included on the DVD. 2. Downloaded from http://www.lis.e-technik.tu-muenchen.de/research/bv/topics/mmdb/mpeg7.html. You also need to download the necessary support files: 1. File-I/O of audio files http://www.lis.e-technik.tu-muenchen.de/research/bv/data/mpeg7-xm-afsp.tgz Extract the files in the zip file to a certain place(e.g. D:\MPEG-7\AFSP-V5R0). Compile it by opening .\msvc\msvc.dsw to generate libAO.lib and libtsp.lib 2. File-I/O of still images for the XM http://www.lis.e-technik.tu-muenchen.de/research/bv/data/ImageMagick-4.2.9.zip http://www.lis.e-technik.tu-muenchen.de/research/bv/data/ImageMagick-nt.zip Extract the files in the zip files to a certain place (e.g. D:\MPEG-7\IMAGEMAGICK-4.2.9\MAGICK). 3. XML parser library I use the xerces-c1_5_1-win32 Extract the files in the zip file to a certain place (e.g. D:\MPEG-7\XERCES-C1_5_1-WIN32) and compile it to generate .dll file. After this step, copy all the dll files into the newsrc directory of the MPEG-7 XM software.
