The L3S Research Center, Hannover, Germany, invites applications for 1 PostDoc and 2 Ph.D. research positions in the context of two new projects which started in 2007 in our search and information retrieval group at L3S, the PHAROS EU/IST Integrated Project and the LINSearch project, funded by the German Ministry of Economy.

in the context of two new projects which started in 2007 in our search and information retrieval group at L3S, the PHAROS EU/IST Integrated Project and the LINSearch project, funded by the German Ministry of Economy.

Your research will focus on topics in the following areas

    * Social Media and Web Logs
    * Data Mining for Social Network Analysis and on the Web
    * Advanced Ranking, Personalization and Spam Analysis
    * Searching Full-Text and Semi-Structured Collections
    * Multimedia Search and Annotation

in a challenging and unique research environment.

The PHAROS project is the main IP funded by the EU in a recent call on audio-visual search technologies, a project overview can be found at http://www.kbs.uni-hannover.de/Arbeiten/Publikationen/2006/PHAROS_SAMT.pdf.
The LINSearch project focuses on integrated full-text and semi-structured search in digital libraries, as well as text classification and clustering.

You should possess good knowledge in one or several areas relevant for the topics specified in this announcement, as well as an outstanding M.Sc. or Ph.D. in computer science.  The salary amounts to German TV-L E13/E14, which is roughly 40.000 to 48.000 Euro gross income per year. Good proficiency in English is expected. German language skills are useful, but not mandatory.
